Sino Gas & Energy (SGE) an Australian company focused on exploring and developing unconventional gas assets in China. Through its wholly owned subsidiary, it has operated in Beijing since 2005.

SGE's Production Sharing Contracts are located in Shanxi province in the Ordos Basin. The acreage is about 1 hour flying time west of the city of Beijing and located in close proximity to major population centres of Yulin and Taiyuan, both of which have a population in excess of 3 million.

The Ordos Basin is the second largest onshore oil and gas producing basin in China. The area has mature field developments with an established pipeline infrastructure to major markets. Major international operators Shell and TOTAL have gas projects in the Ordos Basin.

SGE acquired its interest in these PSCs through a successful farm-in from Chevron, the global oil and gas energy company. SGE is the operator of the PSC's and accordingly is responsible for defining and executing the agreed work programs.

The Ordos Basin has experienced significant reserves growth since 1999 and fields discovered in the Ordos Basin are believed to contain 2P Gas Initially in Place of almost 50Tcf.

SGE's blocks are located on the eastern flank of the Ordos Basin some 70kms east of Shell's Changbei project. To the South West of the blocks and adjoining SGE's acreage is CNPC's Mizhi gas field, which is an analogue for SGE's intended development of its Tight Gas Sand (TGS) reservoirs.

SGE's PSC's are prospective for both TGS and Coal Bed Methane (CBM). The prospective gas-bearing formations in these PSC's are a mixture of coal measures and sandstone. At shallow depths east of the Li Shi fault, the coal measures are permeable and viable sources of CBM. At depths greater than 1300m, TGS gas volumes and productivity are viable due to the higher pressure at this depth.

12 November - 2014 Company Update

Rapid economic development is being experienced in the provinces in which SGE's PSC's are located and natural gas is seen as a key component of clean energy supply. Gas distribution options include: major long distance pipelines, dedicated provincial gas pipelines, and the transportation of the gas following compression. The potential markets for gas include commercial, industrial and gas fired power generation.
