Description
Zamia is an Australian mineral exploration company, targeting the Clermont district of central Queensland, a known gold and emerging porphyry mineral province.
Zamia holds a large package of tenements (eight granted mineral titles) with a further four tenement applications now offered to the company. Over 15 targets for molybdenum, gold and copper have been identified by geochemical and geophysical surveys.
The Anthony deposit is Zamia’s flagship project – a large porphyry-style molybdenum deposit, discovered by the company in 2008. Diamond and reverse circulation 'RC' drilling programmes are still in progress, with further resource upgrades released on 25th February 2011.
Anthony Molybdenum Deposit
Resource estimates have been carried out by resource consultants Hellman & Schofield Pty Ltd (H&S), in accordance with the JORC Code & Guidelines. When near-surface oxide and transition (partly oxidised) material is taken into account, the total resource is 233 million tonnes (Mt) at 420ppm Mo, including 26 Mt at 780ppm Mo.
Deposit Features
* Large porphyry molybdenum (Mo) deposit
* Open at depth (below 300m) and laterally
* High grade core +750 ppm Mo with lower grade +400ppm Mo halo
* Weathered (oxidised) cap up to 80m depth
Gold, Molybdenum and Copper Projects
Zamia’s exploration tenements cover targets for gold, molybdenum and copper. These are related to intrusive centres and associated volcanic strata of the Drummond Basin sequence.
The Anthony molybdenum deposit was discovered in 2008 by drilling on a soil geochemical anomaly. Geological study at Anthony has revealed a porphyry-style deposit, in which molybdenum mineralisation is related to multiple igneous intrusions and associated breccia bodies. Molybdenite [molybdenum sulphide - MoS2] occurs in veins within altered igneous rocks and extending into the surrounding schist.
Some igneous bodies have a distinct magnetic expression whereas others are not evident from magnetic data. Potassium alteration associated with the mineralising events is seen in airborne radiometric data sets, except where the rocks are obscured by black soil cover.
The geological and geophysical data provide a template for assessing regional discovery potential. A review of regional geophysical data, accompanied by reconnaissance fieldwork, has highlighted numerous features which have characteristics similar to the Anthony area.
The data have highlighted 15 intrusive centres in addition to Anthony. These provide targets for porphyry systems with potential for molybdenum, gold and copper. Zamia has applied for additional Exploration Permits for Minerals (EPMs) to cover the identified targets. Zamia’s tenements (EPMs and EPM applications) now covers almost 1,400 km2 .
The Clermont district is emerging as a highly mineralised region, with excellent potential for discovery of additional deposits of molybdenum, gold and perhaps copper. Zamia has established a substantial tenement position and is extremely well placed in this highly prospective area.
