Description
Shaw River Resources is a manganese focused West Australian based mineral exploration company, with five manganese exploration projects in the Pilbara region of Western Australia and one in Ghana. Shaw River's primary focus is the Baramine Project which is located in the East Pilbara manganese province 80km north of the world class Woodie Woodie Manganese project, and is hosted in identical rock sequences.
Baramine Project - Manganese
Shaw River holds a 70% interest in the manganese and iron rights in three Pilbara tenements at Baramine, located 80km north west of the producing ‘Woodie Woodie’ Manganese mine which has a current mining resource of 15 million tons of Manganese ore grading 41% Mn. The tenements are considered highly prospective for manganese and are known to be located on identical geology to the manganese occurrence to the south. An extensive rock chip sampling program in late 2008 identified over 100 separate locations with ore grade manganese in outcrop over a 17km strike length. Individual samples taken returned assay values up to 58.51% Mn.
701 Mile Project - Manganese
The 701 Mile tenements consist of two granted tenements (E52/1531) and located approximately 70km south-east of Newman, Western Australia. The tenements cover Proterozoic age rocks of the Collier and Officer Basins that contain known occurrences of Manganese, similar to those at the nearby Balfour Downs (non JORC compliant resources in excess of 15 million tonnes operated by Hancock Prospecting Ltd) and the Jigalong Prospect (Hannans Reward Ltd).
Skull Springs- Manganese
Shaw River has agreed to enter a farm-in with Talisman Mining on three tenements located within 50km of the Woodie Woodie Manganese Mine in prospective geology (ASX Release – 13 Oct 2009). The new project, Skull Springs comprises of four tenements known as Wandanya, Yilgalong and Gangarrigan. Shaw River will earn up to 70% interest of the new ground over a two year period as part of the joint venture agreement. This is another strong example of Shaw River’s commitment to further expand its manganese exploration ground in the East Pilbara. Already rock chip sampling on the Wandanya prospect has identified manganese up to 65% manganese.
Butre (Ghana) Project - Manganese
Shaw River has agreed to a six month evaluation option to acquire Mwana Africa’s PLC (MWA) 80% interest in a manganese project in Ghana (ASX release – 21 Oct 09). The project is known as the ‘Butre Project,’ which is strategically located in the world class manganese region in West Africa. This agreement represents a natural extension of Shaw River’s manganese strategy. The evaluation period is from October 2009 – March 2010 in which Shaw River intends to confirm the exploration target stated by MWA and increase targets for manganese oxide resources.
Mt Minnie Project - Manganese
The Mt Minnie tenements lie on the western end of a zone of faulting and thrusting that occurs along the southern margin of the Pilbara Craton. It is this zone of thrusting, and associated geochemical activity that was most likely responsible for the gold deposits formed along the “Ashburton structural corridor” running from Mt Minnie through the Paulsens and Mt Olympus gold mines. This area is the target for hydrothermal iron oxide style copper – gold (IOCG) deposits due to its regional structural setting and age. Long lived crustal scale structures within Proterozoic rocks on craton margins are widely accepted as amongst the most prospective locations to explore for world-class ore deposits.
Dingo Creek Project - Manganese
Shaw River has successfully applied for thee new Exploration Licenses (EL’s) covering 979km² which are considered prospective for Manganese mineralisation in the Bangemall Basin of WA. The new Dingo Creek Project is located 40kms north-west and along strike from Aurora Mineral’s Capricorn East manganese project. The new “Dingo Creek Project”, consisting of two exploration license applications over 748 km², covers the western strike extensions of the Ullawarra Formation , which is known to host occurrences of surface manganese mineralisation up to 55.1% to the east of the project. Overall the Shaw River EL Applications cover approximately a 70km strike extent of the Ullawarra Formation. First pass exploration at Dingo Creek will commence on tenement granting in early 2010 with a view to identifying manganese drill targets for testing.
Abydos Project - Base Metals & Gold
The Abydos project comprises of two exploration licences which are both Mineral Rights Tenements, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The project is considered prospective for ultramafic hosted nickel deposits associated with rocks of the Sulphur Springs group, which occur on these tenements. The Abydos project is also prospective for Archaean lode gold deposits, VHMS base metal mineralization and tin-tantalum pegmatite hosted deposits. There are several geological and geochemical targets worthy of additional assessment. The tenements are currently being explored by Atlas Iron for iron ore in the Pincunah Greenstone Belt.
Hedland/Goldsworthy Project - Base Metals & Gold
The Hedland project consists of three exploration licences and an application for an exploration licence proposed to be acquired 100% by Shaw River. This will also allow access via the sealed Marble Bar to Port Hedland Highway which transects the project. The Hedland project covers a belt of ground approximately 50 kilometres in length and up to 20 kilometres wide that trends north east to south west. The tenements are bound by the Mallina and Tabba Tabba shears to the west and east respectively. Both these structures and crustal scale faults are widely accepted to be key contributing factors in the formation of local gold and base metal deposits at Turner River, Indee, Wingina Well, Orchard Well and Supply Well.
Farrel Well Project - BaseMetals & Gold
The Farrel Well project is located approximately 100km south east of the town of Port Hedland. Access is via the Great Northern Highway and then the Marble Bar Highway, which crosses the project area. The project's eighteen contiguous tenements cover 742km2 and are prospective for Au, Ni, Cu, Zn and lead (Pb).
Pearana Project - Base Metals & Gold
The Pearana project is located in the Gregory Range Complex that forms the eastern margin of the Pilbara Craton 250km north east of the town of Newman. The project consists of one exploration licence application E45/2730 over an area of approximately 140km2.
