Description
Sandfire Resources NL (ASX: SFR) is an emerging Australian mining company which is exploring and developing the world-class DeGrussa Copper-Gold Project in Western Australia, as well as a portfolio of prospective base metal, iron ore, manganese and gold projects.
Sandfire has rapidly risen to national and international prominence following the discovery in April 2009 of the high-grade DeGrussa copper-gold deposit, part of its 100%-owned Doolgunna Project located 900km north of Perth, which is one of Australia’s most significant new mineral finds.
The DeGrussa Project currently comprises four high-grade copper-gold deposits – DeGrussa, Conductor 1, Conductor 4 and Conductor 5. These deposits are located within a 1.5km strike length of a highly prospective of a highly prospective 6km long corridor.
Sandfire has to date delivered three JORC compliant Mineral Resource statements for the DeGrussa Project, culminating in a Phase III Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resource in September 2010 of 10.67 million tonnes grading 5.6% copper, 1.9g/t gold and 15g/t silver, containing an estimated 600,000 tonnes of copper, 660,000 ounces of gold and 5.1 million ounces of silver.
The Company is progressing development studies on the DeGrussa Project, including open pit and underground mine design, metallurgical test work, process plant design, native title negotiations and approvals, and infrastructure.
This work is expected underpin a Definitive Feasibility Study commencing towards the end of 2010, leading to potential mine development commencing in the second Quarter of calendar 2011.
The Company’s philosophy is to leverage its expertise in project generation, exploration and prospecting to deliver an outstanding new generation of mining projects which can be developed in alliance or joint venture with its Strategic Alliance Partners and other major end-users of strategic commodities.
Sandfire also has a number of commodity projects including:
* advanced manganese projects in the Northern Territory which are being progressed through a joint venture with the ASX-listed contracting and mineral services company Mineral Resources Limited (ASX: MIN);
* a world-class base metals exploration project in the Northern Territory; and
* a significant portfolio of iron ore and uranium prospects in the Northern Territory.
