Origin Energy (ORG) was listed in February 2000 following the demerger of Boral Group's energy businesses. Origin is a vertically integrated energy company and its operations include: exploration and production; power generation; energy retailing and trading.
ORG looks towards a sustainable approach to developing the growth of the business. The focus is on maintaining its position as a leading Australasian integrated energy company that participates in most segments of the supply chain. The company seeks to deliver market leading performance for shareholders by identifying, developing and operating businesses which deliver value to customers. It also focuses on developing and procuring competitive sources of energy and related products and services to better meet customer energy needs. Origin Energy announced a 38% increase in Underlying Profit to $277m for the six months to 31 December 2008. The company reported Statutory Net Profit after Tax of $6.7bn for the period, compared with $335m for the pcp. It added that it will pay a final dividend of at least 25 cents per share in September, taking total dividends to at least 50 cents per share for the full year.
