Description

Oklo Uranium Limited is a Perth based junior exploration company that successfully listed on the ASX in May 2007 (ASX: OKU). Initially a dedicated uranium explorer, the company has now also moved into phosphate exploration with the acquisition of the Tatteul Phosphate Project in Mali and pending grant of the Burke River Phosphate Project in Queensland.

Phosphate Projects

The phosphate portfolio currently comprises the Tatteul Project in Mali and the Burke River Project in Queensland, Australia.

The Tatteul Project is south west of the company’s mega-sized Kidal Uranium Project (>19,000 square kilometres). Itself over 8,000 square kilometers in area, the Tatteul Project hosts a number of known phosphate deposits and over 180 line kilometers of exposed phosphatic shale. It is with real excitement that Oklo approaches its mapping programme designed to determine the extent of the outcropping phosphate unit.

The Burke River Project in Queensland is located 25 kilometres north of Australia’s largest phosphate mine, Phosphate Hill. Initially pegged as a stand-alone uranium play Oklo now consider it highly prospective for phosphate. It is believed that the phosphatic units of the Georgina Basin, which are mined at Phosphate Hill, extend into the Burke River below younger aged Georgina Basin sediments. It is unlikely that the mineralized unit(s) occurs at the surface so exploration would be predominantly drilling.

Uranium Project Overview

Oklo has a vigorous and innovative approach to uranium exploration that takes full advantage of its highly credentialed broad-based capabilities. Covering two continents and over 30,000km2 of ground, Oklo’s seven major projects are highly prospective for sedimentary-hosted style uranium mineralisation and hard-rock style uranium mineralisation.

Examples of sedimentary-hosted uranium mineralisation include the roll-front deposits of the Tim Mersoï Basin (Niger) and Wyoming (USA), unconformity-type deposits of the Athabasca Basin (Canada), and surficial type deposits like Langer Heinrich (Namibia) and Yeelirrie, Mulga Rock, Thatchers Soak (Western Australia).

Examples of hard-rock-hosted uranium mineralisation include such type-deposits as the alaskite-pegmatite Rössing deposit (Namibia) and vein-type deposits of Jachymov and Pribram (Czech Republic).

In many cases these styles of uranium mineralisation are genetically related and hence spatially juxtaposed, meaning that many of Oklo’s projects have a number of different types of targets – broadening project prospectivity in each case.

All of Oklo’s uranium projects are in areas with known uranium deposits or mineralisation.

Oklo’s project portfolio consists of six projects in Australia and one in west Africa. The West Africa Super Project comprises two projects in uranium-rich Niger and one in neighbouring Mali.

Oklo is focused on continuing to leverage its specialist technical expertise and established relationships in west Africa to further develop its super project. The company’s own uranium exploration model, on the geomorphological characteristics of the surficial uranium deposits of Namibia, is highly applicable to both Niger and Mali and a major driver behind Oklo’s strategic push into the region.
