Mayan Iron Corporation is an ASX listed, minerals exploration company based and managed in Western Australia. The Company has projects in the Mid West of Western Australia and in the Central American country, Guatemala. Mayan Iron is committed to developing projects to provide the steel industry with raw materials by conducting its operations in an environmentally responsible way.
Guatemala Project
Guatemala is a country in Central America, bordered by Mexico to the north and to the west, the Pacific Ocean in the southwest, Belize to the north east, the Caribbean to the east, and Honduras and El Salvador in the southeast. Its’ size is just under 110,000 km2 with an estimated population of 13 million. The official language of Guatemala is Spanish and it is the most populous of the Central American countries with an estimated GDP per capita of US$66.4 million (PPP – Power Purchase Parity ? according to the International Monetary Fund), approximately one half that of Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The 1996 signing of peace accords, which ended 36 years of civil war, removed a major obstacle to foreign investment, and Guatemala has since then, pursued important reforms and macroeconomic stabilization.
Guatemala has a modern and developed infrastructure, including roads, ports in the Atlantic and in the Pacific, availability of power, water, suitable engineering, fabrication and technical capability, as well as telecommunication services and connectivity. The tenements for which licence applications have been lodged and the ones for which Mayan has exploration rights are close to Port Quetzal, which offers specialized terminals, facilities, machinery, equipment, and the necessary services to offer complete and efficient port services. Its Turning Basin has an area of 132,275 mts² and 14 mts in depth, suitable for bulk ships of up to 100,000 tonnes to transport the iron sand.
Western Australia Project
Access to the Gidgee tenements is by sealed road from Meekatharra, 120 kilometres to the northwest or from Sandstone, 140 kilometres to the south and then via station tracks. An abandoned railway easement runs from Wiluna to Mullewa where the current operating railway line from Mullewa to Geraldton is located. Infrastructure in the Mid West region is targeted for development by the WA Government to be focused on the planned Oakajee Port and Rail development.
