Description
After 150 years in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Coal & Allied is one of the major coal producers in the region, employing more than 1500 people across our three operations - Mount Thorley Warkworth, Hunter Valley Operations and Bengalla. Our current projects include the Mount Pleasant, Lower Hunter Lands, Hunter Valley Operations South and the proposed Warkworth Extension.
Bengalla
Bengalla, located four km south west of Muswellbrook in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, supplies international markets with up to six million tonnes of thermal coal per annum.
Mount Thorley Warkworth
Mount Thorley Warkworth (MTW) is an integrated operation of two open cut mines located adjacent to each other 15 km south west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales. The operation supplies international and domestic markets with up to 10 million tonnes of semi-soft coking coal and thermal coal per annum.
Hunter Valley Operations
Hunter Valley Operations (HVO), located 24 km north west of Singleton in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales., supplies international markets with up to 11 million tonnes of thermal and semi-soft coking coal per annum.
Bengalla Modifications
Modifications are proposed to the existing development consent for Bengalla mine. The modifications will maximise the mine's overburden storage capacity, within the existing Development Consent Boundary and mining tenements, without increasing the height of the overburden area.
Carrington West Wing
Coal & Allied is investigating options for a possible extension of mining at Hunter Valley Operations, north of the Hunter River.
Warkworth Mine Extension
Coal & Allied is investigating its options to extend mining within its existing lease at the Mount Thorley Warkworth mine near Singleton.
Hunter Valley Operations South Project
In 2006, Coal & Allied instigated a process to replace the multiple approvals under which HVO South operates, with a single Project Approval. This process, as allowed for by the NSW Government, will streamline administration for both Coal & Allied and the Department of Planning.
Lower Hunter Lands Project
In October 2006 the New South Wales State Government released the Lower Hunter Regional Strategy (LHRS). The primary purpose of this strategy is to ensure adequate land in appropriate locations is available to sustainably accommodate the projected housing and employment needs of the region's growing population.
Mount Pleasant Project
In November 2006 Coal & Allied announced the commencement of a feasibility study into Mount Pleasant's potential development. The feasibility study is expected to be completed by the end of 2007.
Projects Community Engagement Programme
With a long history in the Hunter Valley, and a long term committment to the region, Coal & Allied is committed to keeping the community informed of its plans and activities.
