Main ForumChina reduces first half 2011 REE exports by 35%

  • Looks like it is game on for 2011.

"Lynas Corporation Limited (Lynas) (ASX:LYC, OTC:LYSDY) notes that The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China has released 14,446 tonnes of approved Rare Earths export quota for the first half of 2011.

The total export quota for 2011 will be unknown until approximately July 2011 when the Ministry of Commerce is expected to release the export quota for the second half of 2011. However, comparing the first half of 2011 with the first half of 2010, the export cuts represent a cut of approximately 35%."

Note the first half 2010 and second half 2010 figures as compared to the 2009 figures

If China follows through with a similar cut as in 2010 for the second quarter then it will become very interesting indeed."

I note the announcement by Molycorp that they have restarted their Mountain Pass mine but as pointed out before the real game is for the refined REEs as they are what industry needs.

Fantastic timing for Lynas Corp and probably Alkane. As said many times before: LYNAS will be the first new producer of REFINED REEs and it looks like the market will be red hot with a huge supply crunch limiting the production of almost every type of electronic device

Note the updated information on especially the criticality matrix (both short and medium term) that shows just why Alkane Resources is set to soar.... Especially note the Yttrium, Dysprosium and Terbium story and yes Alkane does have the world's richest Heavy REEs deposit with Yttrium, Dysprosium and Terbium... and yes they have a demonstrated successful pilot plant that includes Yttrium and other H-REE separation.

  • LYC is reported as signing (numerous?) supply agreements in press etc... Is LYC locked into pricing ? or flexible ?

    Details ??

  • As I understand it LYC is not locked into pricing.
