Main ForumMAK -National Minerals Development Corporation to develop Australia's largest phosphate deposit

  • Indian state owned mining company, National Minerals Development Corporation has inked an agreement with Minemakers Limited, an Australian based mining company, to develop the latter's Wonarah Phosphate deposit in the Northern Territory. The Indian company has agreed to pay most of the development costs.

Wonarah is Australia's largest known phosphate deposit. The deal with NMDC is set to bring in the required financial and marketing push to allow the project to be developed to its full potential. Confirming the deal, the official said that “We have agreed to buy 50% stake in the Wonarah rock phosphate mine of Australian mining firm Minemakers."

Both NMDC and Minemakers are to undertake a joint feasibility study into the agreed aspects of the full development of Wonarah, Australia's largest known, undeveloped, phosphate deposit.

The deal could be worth over a billion dollars and will certainly have put a smile on the face of MAK loyal shareholders. Australian Shares' Sparty has been posting about MAK for some time now

It should be remembered that MAK also has the massive Namibian Sandpiper Phosphate resource (JV with UCL) that is edging towards development. The Namibian phosphate absolutely dwarfs the Wonarah deposit... subtract UCL's phosphate from MAK's to gain an idea of how large the Namibian deposit is... the difference between the two is the Wonarah deposit. The Sandpiper resource is currently the largest individual phosphate resource in the world with an estimated JORC compliant resource of 1.581Bt at 18.8% P₂O₅.

  • Sparty, This seems to be the money that will finish the house that MAK built. The value of the extension that is Sandpiper seems assured. Only time is needed to make it happen. The value of MAK shares must be good, though I'm yet to run the numbers.

    Great find Sparty.

  • MAK gave a good account of themselves at the RIU Gold Coast Resources Showcase. I got to talk with several of their people... I will be holding my MAK and adding to them.

I asked if they were going to takeover UCL... they replied it has been discussed.

  • I'm currently bereft of MAK shares. This must be rectified.

  • I'm trying to invest the 20 acres of land with phosphate in Republic of Palau...How can I find investors to work on this project.

  • Hello Colker, that could be an interesting task. Have you done any initial studies as to grade etc?

Perhaps email: info@intaanetto.com and ask if you could place an Ad on www.australian-phosphate.com
