Uranium DiscussionUranium Expansion Encourages WA Mining Industry

  • Monday, 23/11/2009

Western Australia's peak resources body has seen an increase in membership this year, despite a really difficult year for the miners.

Twelve new resource companies signed up to the Chamber of Minerals and Energy, a 3 per cent increase on last year.

Chief executive Reg Howard-Smith says there have been some positives for the resources sector in 2009.

"It's been a year where there's been a lot of policy achievement, with the new state government coming on board, and a lot of the issues that the chamber has been advocating for some years are actually coming to fruition," he says.

"We've actually seen a couple of sectors expanding over the last 12 months and one of those is uranium.

"The uranium industry is gearing up for production in a few years' time, and so that has meant a lot more activity."
