Author: Dorothy Kosich Posted: Monday , 31 Aug 2009 RENO, NV - The U.S. Energy Information Administration said domestic uranium production declined 8% during the second quarter of this year to 982,760 pounds U3O8. For the first half of this year, U.S. uranium concentrate production totaled 1,862,796 pounds of U3O8, an one percent decline from the 1,883,504 pounds produced during the first half of 2008. The one domestic uranium mill in production, Denison's White Mesa Mill, reported 114,000 pounds of U3O8 production during the second quarter and 442,000 pounds produced during the first half of this year. During the second quarter the mill was shut down for 29 days for scheduled maintenance. Processing of alternate feed material began in early June, using the new alternate feed circuit. Four uranium in-situ leach plants were reported in production by the EIA including the Alta Mesa project in Texas, the Crown Butte Operation in Chadron, Nebraska, the Kingsville Dome in Kleberg County, Texas, and Cameco's Smith Ranch-Highland Operation Wyoming.
